Caramelised glass fabric

Apronor >
Our range of high-temperature insulating textiles includes a variety of products for industrial applications, such as glass fabrics.
Made from fibre glass, they can be finished with a variety of treatments and coatings to be adapted for specific uses. When they undergo a caramelisation treatment, the fibres are removed from the surface to improve their performance and heat resistance. This desensitisation treatment also helps to limit the emission of smoke as the temperature rises. Available for the French market as well as for export, this caramelised glass fabric is the innovative, high-performance textile that can be used to make protective and insulating equipment and solutions. It meets the specific needs and constraints of professionals in the industry and construction sectors.
Insulating and heat-resistant textile
Caramelised glass fabric is composed of 100% type “E” glass fibre. This non-combustible, insulating material can resist a peak temperature of 600°C. It is natural and not harmful to human health or the environment. This fibre also has these advantages :
- sterilised ;
- resistant to oils, solvents and other chemical products ;
- inorganic ;
- with good compressibility;
- resistant to vibration and abrasion.
Furthermore, it doesn’t give off smoke. It is therefore a high-performance technical textile, with interesting properties for industrial applications requiring high mechanical and thermal resistance. This caramelized glass fabric is also highly effective in reducing smoke emissions in the event of a fire. This is why it is used in the manufacture of fire protection solutions.

The fabric adapted to industrial applications
This technical textile is suitable for a number of applications, such as:
- insulation mats ;
- welding protection blankets;
- thermal insulation systems for buildings.
Quite thin, its thickness varies from 0.68 mm to 1.20 mm.
Depending on the reference, the weave can be :
- square plain ;
- taffeta ;
- satin.
Its shiny light brown colour is due to the caramelisation process.
The lightness of caramelised glass fabric makes it easy to use, and its packaging in rolls makes it easy to handle. Its practical format makes it easy to use and store.

Le tissu de verre caramélisé subit un traitement de désensimage qui caramélise la fibre. Ce traitement permet d’accroître les performances de tenue à la température et limite les dégagements de fumée lors de la première montée en température.
